2nd Story Addition - Kitchen Expansion & Master Bedroom 2nd-Story in San Anselmo
This residence has been expanded with a new second-story Master Bedroom Suite and an expanded lower floor Kitchen. Materials are consistent throughout the house with white single-panel cabinets, white marble countertops and oak floors. All interior spaces have been upgraded.
This house located on the Corte Madera lagoon was expanded along the entire length of the building to provide an enlarged kitchen/family room and re-arranged bedrooms above. A viewing deck above was included. The entry, living room and upstairs den were refined with new detailing and appointments.

The remodeling of this entire house and separate studio centers around the Great Room, with a new kitchen addition expanding the space. New high windows amplify the spaciousness and provide views upward into the trees.

The studio above the garage consisted of a tall space with loft. A new stair was added to make the loft more accessible, a bathroom was added for convenience, and a new gas-fired stove provided for comfort.
The Master Bath features a steam shower and a soaking tub with views of the private garden.

Mill Valley Solarized Home
The Owners of this shingled bungalow preferred to retain parts of the original house while having their addition built in a modern style. It was also important that the home take advantage of the latest is solar heating. Consequently the house is served by solar hot water heating and radiant space heating. The lower slab floor contains hot water tubing while the upper framed floor uses WarmBoard plywood floor sheathing to contain hot water tubing. The lowest floor is served by a hot water driven heat exchanger that blows forced air into this level. Solar collectors for hot water and photo-voltaics are located on racks on the roof.
Cement plaster walls at the addition allow the introduction of an accent color for interest.
The new garage roof becomes a viewing deck accessible from the rear garden on the upper terrace.
This remodeling, including a living room expansion, was designed in conjunction with Sandra Bird, Kitchens and Baths. The vaulted ceiling defines the added living room/ dining room and provides a sense of spaciousness. The kitchen was moved to be located conveniently between the living and family rooms. Stairway leads to the Master Bedroom.
This Fairfax home was upgraded and expanded to include a home study, new Master Bedroom, Family Room, revised children bedrooms, and a new garage. The living room ceiling was raised and glazed areas increased to take advantage of Mt. Tam views. The kitchen was relocated to take advantage of a new, private outdoor patio. Viewing decks were added.

2nd-STORY ADDITION - Kitchen/ Family/ Master Bedroom Addition in San Rafael
2nd STORY ADDITION - Former Fairfax Branch Post Office
Before
Originally a Fairfax Branch Post Office, this 400 sf building was added to with a 2nd story, straddling the old. To meet parking requirements on this postage stamp-size lot, the floor plan was arranged as a studio only, i.e. with the master bedroom open to the space below. The resulting 2-story space provides drama.
2nd-STORY ADDITION - Larkspur Project in Phases
A second story was added to this single level home providing a large 2-story dining room that now acts as a focus to all interior spaces. The main house now features 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and a large laundry room.
Years later the owner wished to add a second unit at the rear of the property, to be nestled into the redwood grove. The 2nd unit mimics the style, color and detailing of the main house. Additional parking was provided and paving was re-done with stone pavers.

The Cottage is a one-bedroom, 1-bath unit of 700 s.f. Features include a large private deck with built-in gas-fired barbeque. Views to the creek and redwoods are emphasized.
With the warmth of old-world craftsmanship, this classic residence was almost totally rebuilt as a faithful replica of an early 20th century craftsman-style home that previously sat of the property.
This old bungalow was completely remodeled & an exterior patio created. The living room was expanded by cantilevering in the down-slope direction. Due to the proximity of the neighbors, privacy & light was achieved by creating a bank of window-skylights while maintaining the high view to the hills beyond.
2nd STORY ADDITION - Transformation to a Craftsman Home
Before
This remodel includes a second story addition over an existing family room and garage, how containing a new master suite and bedroom. The existing house has been remodeled from its stucco facade and mansard roof to a traditionally-detailed craftsman-style home with a new gable roof.
This re-built garage maintains the exterior design to match the craftsman-style existing house. Interior programming includes parking for one car, bar, home theater, workbench, space for ping pong table and poker table, access to upper storage loft.
